Uncover an unexpected treat as you wander from Workington’s lively streets to serene countryside paths along the River Derwent, exploring quiet trails, historic mills, and peaceful green spaces. A hidden delight on the town’s doorstep, you can choose to loop back to the riverside route or try an alternative route to take in views of the Irish Sea and Siddick Ponds Nature Reserve, a walk full of variety and discovery.

Length: 6 miles | 10km

Time: 2.5 hrs - 3 hr

Difficulty: Moderate

Accessibility: Gates, stiles and muddy tracks

Transport: plenty of transport options

Parking: Plenty of parking options in town centre

Refreshments: Plenty of cafes, pubs and takeaways to choose from in the town centre

This is a really lovely walk for those who want a longer trail with plenty of interest. It’s glorious to be beside the River Derwent for so long; it’s a walk that just on keeps giving. We’d love it if people share their 10 minute sketches with us too! #WateryWalks
