Hills to headwaters: a proper trek
This rugged hiker’s trek takes you up the heights of High Rigg, along the ridge and down to return along the picturesque valley floor along St. John’s Beck. Enjoy panoramic views of the valley where we’re working with farmers and landowners to restore nature, re-naturalise watercourses and create healthier habitats for local wildlife. This walk offers a mix of open fellside and riverside paths, perfect for adventurers seeking a rewarding day out in the heart of Thirlmere.

Length: 5.4 miles | 8.7km
Time: 2hr 30 min - 3hr 30 min
Difficulty: Challenging
Accessibility: Stiles, gates, prolonged steep climbs, boggy sections
Transport: 555 bus from Keswick, Ambleside & Windermere to Legburthwaite - cycle racks available in the LDNP car park
Parking: Legburthwaite pay & display car park

This is my favourite Watery Walk. The walk offers the perfect blend of challenging terrain and stunning views. From the heights of High Rigg to the peaceful valley floor by the river, it’s a lovely journey.
