Wild wanders:
A lollipop shaped family wildlife walk

A magical family journey begins from Egremont, leading you along the winding banks of the beautiful River Ehen to the tranquil Longlands Lake, where you can download an additional family friendly Tale Trail map as you circle the lake. Keep your eyes peeled for playful otters, darting kingfishers, and diving dippers along the way. This lollipop-shaped adventure promises nature spotting, storytelling, and special moments in this riverside paradise.

Location: River Ehen, Egremont

Length: 3.8 miles | 6.1km

Time: 1 hr 30 min - 2 hr

Difficulty: Easy

Accessibility: Fairly flat with steps and gates, can get muddy

Transport: Bus 30 from Maryport to Egremont

Parking: Pay & display car parks at

Refreshments: A chippy, coffee shops & pubs can all be found in the town centre, plus a great ice cream shop called Hartley’s on Church St.

You can walk along the unique River Ehen (home to our very special Freshwater Pearl Mussels) all the way to Longlands Lake, where you can then use our family Tale Trail map to explore the lake. There’s plenty to engage older children and the ice cream at the end is always a hit!
