Wasdale Voluntary Wednesdays

13th January 2016

National Trust

West Cumbria Rivers Trust and The National Trust are setting up a new and exciting voluntary opportunity in the Wasdale valley. This regular event will be scheduled for the second Wednesday of each month. Activities will be varied but they will all assist in conserving the countryside and wildlife of the Wasdale area. For more information see our volunteer role profile.

This month we shall be removing rhododendron and redundant deer fencing from a woodland adjoining the River Irt. The rhododendron is preventing enough light from reaching the river. By cutting back the rhododendron and selected trees we will create more ‘dappled shade’ which is much better for the river and its inhabitants.
